Early team news vs Sheffield United

Reds Mananger - Jurgen Klopp - will be forced to make atleast one change to the starting eleven for the Reds trip to Bramall Lane, as Joel Matip has joined an increasing injury list.

Jurgen Klopp takes his Liverpool team to Bramall Lane tonight, to face a Sheffield United side deep in relegation trouble.  It will be the first meeting between the sides since the 2020/21 season, with the Reds having won the last 5 meetings between the two sides.

Despite the contrast in the teams fortunes this season, Klopp will be aware of the danger United will pose, especially with a new Manager being appointed in the last 24 hours.  Klopp will also need to balance his players physical well-being, with the game coming just 3 days after the last match, and with more players joining the injury list every week.

Check out our early team news below :

Liverpool Injuries

Joel Matip - The centre-back is the latest player to pick up an injury, during the last game against Fulham.  No details have been provided about the injury, but speaking after the game, Klopp expressed his disappoint and frustration at another 'bad' injury for Matip.

Alisson - Liverpool's no.1 is still nursing a thigh injury, and will not be risked.  Klopp has faith in back-up keeper Kelleher, so expect to see Alisson out for a few more weeks.

Diogo Jota - The Portuguese striker suffered a hamstring injury against Man City last month, and it looked like he would be sidelined for several months.  However, Jota is 'progressing well' in his rehab, and is now running outside.  He is still not expected to be back in contention until after Christmas, but the news is more positive than expected.

Thiago - Spanish midfielder Thiago remains sidelined, with multiple hip and pelvic injuries.  Unlikely to be seen until the New Year at the earliest.

Andy Robertson - Our Scottish left-back is progressing well after an operation on his dislocated shoulder, though he is not expected back in action for several more months.

Stefan Bajcetic - The young Spanish midfielder is making progress on his return to full fitness, but Klopp will not want to rush his return and risk further setbacks.

All change for the Blades

Sheffield United have been busy in the last 48 hours, sacking Manager Paul Heckingbottom, and replacing him with previous Manager, Chris Wilder.

Reacting to the news, Klopp said,

"We can probably bin our analysis! I was sitting yesterday in the office and somebody told me it might happen... but I watched it anyway. We will see.

We have to focus on ourselves. I don’t think he will now change too much. What can he change in that short period? We don’t have to think too much about it. We really should just prepare for a football game. We play teams with five at the back, 5-3-2 and 5-4-1, quite frequently, to be honest.

We have to make sure we give them a proper job to think about. I understand it's always like that – a new manager coming in and now we start getting confused; we shouldn't."

United will definately be without striker Oliver McBurnie, who is serving a suspension for a red card in the last match.  United are also without 8 first team players, including : Chris Basham, Rhys Norrington-Davies, John Egan, Tom Davies, Daniel Jebbison, Rhian Brewster and George Baldock.
