Mohamad Salah has equalled another longstanding LFC goalscoring record, and no-one would bet against him going one better next week!
Mohamad Salah is the consumate professional. He dedicates his life to his football, and always wants to preform at his very best. That's why he has been Liverpool's top scorer for the past 6 seasons, and, why he continus to set, and break, new records almost every match.
Last Sunday saw Salah score again for Liverpool, this time against Nottingham Forest. It was Salah's 10th goal in 13 games. More significantly, it meant Salah equalled a record held by Harry Chambers and John Aldridge.
5 home games - 5 goals
Scoring against Forest meant Salah had scored in each of the first 5 home games of a league season, something only Chambers (in 1922) and Aldridge (in 1987) had previously accomplished.
Harry Chambers set the record in 1922, when he scored against Arsenal, Sunderland, Preston North End, Burnley and Everton. His run came to an end against Tottenham, although he did score again the following week against Aston Villa. Chambers would go on to score 25 goals in 43 appearances during the 1922/23 season.
John Aldridge then equalled record during the 1987/88 season, scoring against Oxford United, Charlton Athletic, Derby, Portsmouth and QPR. His run was eventually ended by Everton, who played out a 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the Reds 6th home game of the season.
Salah, therefore, has become only the third Liverpool player to achieve the feat, but few would bet against him continuing his goalscoring run, and breaking the record altogether. Next up at Anfield in the league is Brentford, 0n the 12th November 2023, before Fulham visit on the 3rd December 2023.
