Latest injury news - Jota, Matip, Thiago
Jurgen Klopp has provided updates on several of Liverpool's injured players, including Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, and Thiago.
The Reds travel to Aston Villa on Monday evening, before the final game of the season against Wolves in a week, so it is a race against time to see if any of Liverpool's injured stars can feature again this season.
Liverpool head to Villa Park tomorrow evening for the penultimate game of the season, and Klopp's final away game as Reds manager.
In a season filled with emotional highs and lows, it's easy to forget the club's horrendous injury crisis during January and February, with ELEVEN first-team players out injured. Thankfully, the squad is in much better health now, with Jurgen Klopp having a nearly fully fit squad for tomorrow's match with Aston Villa.
That said, there are still several members of the first team unavailable to Klopp, with veteran midfielder Thiago, and defender Joel Matip both unlikely to play again for the Reds, either this season or next.
Five players ruled out of Villa Park trip
Of the five players unavailable to Klopp, Thiago, Matip, and youngster Ben Doak have been sidelined for many months, with all three ruled out for the rest of the season. For Thiago and Matip, that means both players may have played their final games in a red shirt, with both expected to leave Anfield in the summer, when their contracts expire.
Youngster Bobby Clark has also seen his season ended by injury, though the club have yet to specify the exact details of the problem.
That leaves Diogo Jota as the other main injury worry, with the Portuguese forward struggling with a muscle problem, having only returned to action a few weeks ago after a serious knee injury. It's unlikely that Jota will make the trip to Villa Park, with Klopp having plenty of other forward options at the moment.
Robertson and Van Dijk face late fitness tests
As well as the players mentioned above, defenders Andy Robertson and Virgil Van Dijk are both facing late fitness tests, having missed some of this week's training sessions, though both are expected to make the squad.
If either player is ruled out, Klopp will have plenty of defensive options to call on, with Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez ready to fill in at left-back, and Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Knoate and Joe Gomez (again), able to operate as the central midfielders.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Klopp was especially pleased with the attitude and effort of youngster Quansah, whom he singled out for praise,
"Jarell is training really well and we have a lot of training sessions, he is training really well."
"That doesn’t mean Ibou [Konate] or Joey [Gomez] wouldn’t train well, but Jarell trained really well and that’s how it is and that’s why I make these kinds of decisions. That’s the best situation to have, I can just sit there and look at it."
