Are Liverpool ditching Nike in favour of Adidas?

Reports suggest Liverpool could be about to end their partnership with Nike, and re-unite with German sportswear giant Adidas from next year, as the Reds look to maximise their marketing potential.

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of switching kit manufacturers, in a massive deal that could see the Reds earn anywhere between £60million to £80million a season.

In what would be a sensational turn of events, Adidas has apparently won the rights to supply Liverpool's kit from the start of the 2025-26 season, after a bidding war between Nike, Puma, and Adidas.

Nike has been Liverpool's kit supplier since the 2020-21 season, with the Reds so desperate to sign with the US sportswear giant, that they took the previous kit supplier New Balance to court.  The deal with Nike is reportedly worth a guaranteed £30million per season, with an additional 20% of all LFC branded sales also going to the Anfield club, with the Reds banking anywhere from £50million to £60million per season once the 20% clause is taken into account.

Nike has also used several of its global ambassadors, such as Lebron James, to create a range of leisurewear that features the LFC logo, such as the LFC X LeBron Collection, which includes clothes, shoes, and accessories, and was seen as one of the key selling points in Liverpool choosing to sign with Nike five years ago.

However, if today's reports are true, then CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, appears to be taking the club in a new direction, with Adidas set to become the club kit supplier from next year after a secret tender was conducted over the last couple of months.  No official details of the deal have been revealed, but insiders have reported that Liverpool was looking to match Manchester United's recent deal with Adidas, which is worth close to £90million a year.  It's unlikely that the new Liverpool deal will be worth £90million a season, but it must have taken a staggeringly good deal to tempt Liverpool into cutting ties with Nike, especially as their most recent kits and training range has been met with universal approval from Liverpool fans.

Liverpool and Adidas - A Long History of Success

Liverpool and Adidas have a long history of working together, with the German sportswear giant having supplied the Reds kit during the 1980's (when the Reds were hugely successful on the pitch), as well as the late 1990's and early 2000's.

During that period, Adidas created some of the club's most iconic kits, with many fans reacting with joy at the possible link-up between the two brands once again.
