Liverpool to fall silent to remember the victims of Hillsborough

The city of Liverpool will stop at 3.06 pm today, to mark the 35th Anniversary of the Hillsborough Tragedy, where 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives.

On the 15th of April 1989, English football witnessed one of its darkest moments, as 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives, during the FA Cup Semi-Final against Nottingham Forest.

To commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the Tragedy, the city of Liverpool will fall silent this afternoon at 3.06 pm, the exact moment the referee blew his whistle to stop the game, as the full horror of the situation became apparent.

Liverpool FC paid its respects yesterday, with a minute's silence before their game against Crystal Palace, and the city will follow suit today, with a small service outside the Town Hall, before the minute's silence is followed by a bell being tolled 97 times, once for each of the victims.  Flags across the city will also be flown at half-mast.

Despite the horrific events of that day, Liverpool FC, the city, and the families that lost loved ones have faced 35 years of abuse and criticism, with the Police and other authorities blaming the Liverpool fans, when in fact it was their shortcomings and mismanagement that caused the disaster.  After decades of campaigning, the truth has finally been told, although the fight for justice continues, with the Police Officers in charge that day, still yet to face trial for their part in the disaster.

LFC - Back On Our Perch would like to express our heartfelt condolences to anyone affected by Hillsborough.
