Liverpool vs Atalanta preview: kick-off, team news, TV channel

Liverpool are back in European action on Thursday, as they welcome Italian side Atalanta to Anfield in the first leg of the Europa League Quarter-Finals.

After the disappointment of Sunday's draw at Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp, and his players have the distraction of the Europa League this week, as Atalanta are the visitors to Anfield.  Liverpool are strong favourites to win the competition but will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to secure a first-leg lead to take out to Italy next week.

Team News

Liverpool:
Liverpool have no new injury concerns after the weekend, which will please Jurgen Klopp.  Long-term absentees Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota are nearing a return to action, but will not make Thursday's game.  That means Thiago, Matip, Doak, and Bajcetic are the only players unavailable.

Atalanta:
Italian side Atalanta are also in good health, with only Giorgio Scalvini (hamstring) a doubt for the match.  Attacking midfielder, Charles De Ketelaere has recovered from an abductor injury but is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.

Predicted Liverpool Lineup

Jurgen Klopp will stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Kelleher, Gomez, Van Dijk (C), Konate, Tsimikas, Jones, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Elliott, Nunez, Salah,

Although Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may be tempted to rest some of his star players after a hectic period of football, he will know that Atalanta cannot be underestimated, and will want the Reds to secure a decent first-leg lead, to take out to Italy next week.  I therefore expect Klopp to start with both Salah and Nunez upfront, although Luis Diaz should be rested.  Harvey Elliott has been excellent when coming on as a substitute and deserves to start on Thursday.  Dominik Szoboszai looked jaded on Sunday, so should be rested, while Wataru Endo can also have a night off, with Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch ready to step into midfield.  Virgil Van Dijk will Captain the side, with Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Kostas Tsimikas completing the back four.

LFC - Back On Our Perch Score Prediction

Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a response from his players, and I can see Salah and Nunez finding their shooting boots once again, which means Liverpool should score at least two goals.  Atalanta have plenty of experience, and they won't play into Liverpool's hands like Sparta Prague did, but the Reds have more than enough experience and quality to put this tie to bed if they want to.
