Arsenal and City draw to give Liverpool title advantage
Arsenal and Manchester City played out a boring 0 - 0 draw at the Etihad Stadium yesterday, meaning Liverpool now have the advantage in the Premier League title race.
Speaking after his side had beaten Brighton 2 - 1 at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp joked that he would like both "City and Arsenal to lose" when the two sides met at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.
Our favorite German was, of course, messing around, but he will still have been delighted by what he saw, as City and Arsenal played out a boring 0 - 0 draw, meaning Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table, and more importantly, took back control of the title race.
For Klopp and his players, the situation is now very simple. Win all their remaining games and Liverpool will be Champions. Of course, nothing in football is ever simple, but with City and Arsenal both dropping points, Liverpool are once again the masters of their own destiny.
Pressure beginning to build
Liverpool now holds a two-point advantage over Arsenal and a three-point advantage over Man City, and while there are still 27 points to play for, both Arsenal and City know that they cannot afford to drop any more points if they want to remain in the title race. And that's where the pressure will start to build.
Every game is now like a cup final, with both teams knowing another draw or defeat could spell the end of their title chances.
Liverpool of course, will also feel that pressure, but they also have the luxury of knowing that every victory they pick up, adds more pressure to the other two teams.
Every game is massive
This season's title race is one of the best we have seen for many years, and to have three teams still fighting for the title with just nine games to go is great for the Premier League.
There are no more games between the top three, though each team still has several high-profile games that could prove decisive in the title race, with Liverpool facing United, Everton, and Aston Villa away, City playing Aston Villa, Brighton, and Wolves, while Arsenal still have to face Brighton, Tottenham, Chelsea, United and Everton.
Premier League Table
Played | Points | GD | |
Liverpool | 29 | 67 | +40 |
Arsenal | 29 | 65 | +46 |
Man City | 29 | 64 | +35 |
