Kirkland and Litmanen join LFC Legends Match

Another two Legends have been added to the upcoming Legends Charity match at Anfield, with goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, and attacker Jari Litmanen ready to entertain.

Anyone visiting Anfield this Saturday for the LFC Legends Charity Match will certainly be getting their money's worth, with two new Anfield heroes being added to the squad.

Liverpool FC yesterday confirmed that goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and attacking midfielder Jari Litmanen will both be playing, in addition to the news that Liverpool's greatest-ever Captain, Steven Gerrard, will also be playing in the match.

These latest additions mean 21 Legends will be taking part for LFC, with the team set to be managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and Sven-Goran Eriksson.  Both teams usually play a different XI in each half, meaning everyone involved will get plenty of game time.

Tickets for the match have now sold out, with over 55,000 fans attending the game.  Some hospitality packages are still available, which can be booked via the Official Liverpool FC Website.  Alternatively, if you can't make it to Anfield on Saturday, you can stream the game live on LFC TV.

LFC - Back On Our Perch will bring you all the latest news and interviews as we count down to kick-off.

Chris Kirkland Factfile

Chris Kirkland played over 300 games in a career spanning 18 years and eight different teams.

He made his breakthrough with Coventry City and was heralded as one of the brightest goalkeeping prospects in England.  In 2001, Liverpool paid £6million for his services.  Sadly for Kirkland and the club, his time at Anfield was blighted by a series of injuries that nearly ended his career.  In total, Kirkland made 45 appearances for the Reds.

After moving to Wigan Athletic in 2006, Kirkland re-ignited his career, earning his only England call-up that summer.  He would go on to play for another 10 years, before becoming a goalkeeping coach.

After retiring, Kirkland spoke of his injury nightmare and how it had affected his mental health, and is keen to promote mental well-being, especially in men.

Jari Litmanen

Jari Litmanen had a glittering career spanning 18 years and played for some of the world's biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Barcelona, and Ajax, where he won the Champions League in 1995.

When Litmanen signed for Liverpool, it was seen as a real coup, with then Reds boss, Gerard Houllier, saying, "We have signed a world-class player. He comes with a massive reputation and I believe he's one of the most exciting signings we have made."

An attacking midfielder with excellent technique and an eye for goal, Litmanen played nearly 600 games, scoring over 200 goals, and has been voted Finland's greatest-ever player.
