Liverpool breaks Premier League attendance record
Sunday's game against Manchester City will go down in the Liverpool history books, as the club set a new record attendance at Anfield for a Premier League game.
- Liverpool set a new Premier League attendance record at Anfield on Sunday
- 59, 947 fans were in attendance to watch Liverpool take on Manchester City
- The previous record (of 59,896) was only set February this year
- Anfield Road Stand expansion is nearing completion
Liverpool may not have gotten the victory they wanted on Sunday, but the club was still able to set a new attendance record, with 59,947 fans attending the match at Anfield.
As work on the Anfield Road Stand nears completion, more and more fans are able to attend matches, with Anfield's final capacity set to be 61,000. Construction should be finished in the coming months, with just the last few rows of the top tier to finish, as well as the new away section.
Prior to this season, Anfield's record crowd for a league match stood at 58,747. That figure was set all the way back in 1949, and came in a game against Chelsea.
However, as sections of the new stand have been opened, Anfield's capacity has been steadily increasing. Back in December 2023, the club welcomed 57,158 to watch Liverpool take on Manchester United. That was Anfield's largest crowd for 60 years, however, in February this year, the club set a new record, as 59,896 fans watched Liverpool beat Burnley 3 - 1.
Sunday's figure of 59,947 now holds the record for the clubs largest league attendance, though it would not be a surprise to see this new record also topped before the end of the season. Whenever the record is beaten, LFC - Back On Our Perch will be on hand to bring you all the details.
