It's a debate that can heard in pubs and stadiums up and down the country - "Who is the most successful football club in England?"

To give a definitive answer, we need to set how we are going to measure each team's success.  For this article, I'll be looking at how many major trophies each team has won.  Deciding what counts as a 'major' trophy is a big debate in itself, but I've decided to include the following competitions:

  • Premier League (or Division One as it was previously called)
  • FA Cup
  • League Cup
  • FA Charity Shield
  • Champions League (or European Cup as it was previously called)
  • UEFA Cup
  • UEFA Super Cup
  • FIFA Club World Cup

Then there is the debate about whether one competition is more valuable than another, and should therefore carry more weight.  Again, you could spend the day just debating that question, but for this article, I'm going to simply award one point for each of the above competitions, so if a team has won the Premier League 10 times, they get 10 points.

Read on below for each teams score, and the answer to 'who is the most successful football club in England'.
