Despite their defeat against Union SG tonight, Liverpool are safely through to the Round of 16 in the Europa League.
By winning their group, Liverpool have avoided the complication of the 'Knockout Round Play Off', where the 8 runners up from the Europa League group stage, and the 8 third placed teams from the Champions League group stage, face each other, for the chance to reach the Round of 16.
The 8 runners up from the Europa League will be seeded, whilst the 8 teams dropping out of the Champions League will be unseeded.
The unseeded teams are :
Benfica (Portugal)
Braga (Poland)
Feyenord (Holland)
Galatasaray (Turkey)
Lens (France)
AC Milan (Italy)
Shaktar Donetsk (Ukraine)
Young Boys (Switzerland)
The seeded teams are :
Sporting CP (Portugal)
SC Freiburg (Germany)
Marseille (France)
Sparta Prague (Czech)
Toulouse (France)
Rennes (France)
Roma (Italy)
Qarabag (Azerbaijan)
The draw for the 'Knockout Round Play Off' takes place on Monday 18th December 2023, with the ties due to be played on the 15th and 22nd February 2024.
No team can face another team from the same national association.
The 8 winners from these ties, will then go into a draw to face the 8 Europa League group winners. The draw for these matches will take place on the 23rd February 2024. Liverpool therefore, will have to wait until the 23rd February, to discover who their opponents will be in the Round of 16.
