Referee Darren England will keep his job - and his £150,000 a year salary - but has been told he will not referee another Liverpool game this season.
The FA have confirmed that referee Darren England will keep his job, although he will not be allowed to referee another Liverpool match this season.
According to the Telegraph, England retains the support of Referee's chief Howard Webb, and the decision has therefore been taken to retain his services moving forward.
However, due to the seriousness of the errors made during the Tottenham vs Liverpool game - where England and his VAR team mistakenly ruled out a legitimate Luis Diaz goal, the PGMOL have decided that England should not officiate another Liverpool game for the rest of this season.
We feel that's a good decision. At the end of the day the VAR Officials made a mistake. They are human after all, and we all make mistakes everyday. Unfortunately this mistake was very public and very serious, and in a league where a single point can cost you the Title, it is a mistake that may have massive repercussions at the end of the season. Therefore, asking England or any of the team from that night, to officiate another Liverpool match this season would be very difficult, given the abuse they are likely to face from fans, and the pressure to not make another mistake.
