The decision cost Liverpool a game, and possibly the game, but decision will be of little interest to Klopp of his players.
The VAR official at the heart of the Luis Diaz offside goal controversy has been stood down for next weekend.
Darren England was in charge of VAR duties at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, when Liverpool had a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside. As VAR Official, England’s job was to review the decision, using the technology available, to check if Diaz was indeed on side.
Amazingly, England failed to check the decision, ignoring what was an obvious error. So obvious in fact, that even ex Man Utd Legend Gary Neville argued that you could see with the naked eye that Diaz was onside by at least 1 foot. Not a toenail, or an inch, but a massive gap that everyone watching the game could see, except of course the linesman or VAR team…..
The error undoubtedly changed the course of the game, as despite being down to 10 men, if the goal had stood Liverpool would have had a 1-0 lead to defend, and as they showed later in the game, even with 9 men Tottenham struggled to break us down.
The Assistant VAR Official, Dan Cook, has also been stood down. Cook was due to be the assistant Referee for the Fulham vs Chelsea game on Monday, but he has now been replaced by Eddie Smith.
Darren England was due to 4th Official at the City Ground for Nottingham Forest vs Brentford today, but he has been replaced by Craig Pawson.
