Liverpool sell Minamino to Monaco for £15.5million, ending midfielders short stay on Merseyside
Taki Minamino's Liverpool career has come to an end after the Japanese midfielder agreed a £15.5million move to French side Monaco. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds will receive an initial £12.9million up front, with a further £2.5million payable depending on appearances and bonuses.
The international Midfielder, signed from RB Salzburg for £7.25million in January 2020, leaves Liverpool with 55 appearances and 14 goals to his name, however, his time will forever be remembered for his injury time equaliser against Leicester in the League Cup campaign of 21/22, which kept Liverpool in the competition, and eventually saw them win both the League Cup and FA Cup.
Despite providing some great moments, the Midfielder failed to fully settle on Merseyside, and fans will be left feeling a little bit disappointed that he was unable to recreate the form that led to Liverpool signing him in the first place. Indeed, such was his lack of game time that he spent the second half of the 20/21 season on loan at Southampton.
Minamino leaves Liverpool with a Premier League Winners medal, FA Cup winners medal and League Cup winners medal. He was also the Reds top scorer in both the FA Cup and League Cup last season, with 10 goals.
Upon joining Monaco Minamino released a statement saying -
“I am happy to be part of this very exciting project, at a club with a great tradition and among the most recognized in Ligue 1. I am looking forward to discovering my new environment and doing everything I can to help the team.”
Everyone at LFC - Back On Our Perch would like to thank Minamino for his time at Liverpool and wish him all the best in his future career.
