Liverpool take Premier League season to last game

Liverpool's victory over Southampton ensures they take the Premier League season to the very last game.

Liverpool's victory over Southampton on Tuesday night ensured the Premier League season will go to the very last day, with another 'winner takes all' scenario for both Liverpool and Manchester City.

Despite falling behind to Nathan Redmond's deflected early goal, Liverpool controlled the game and got the victory they needed with goal's from Minamino and Matip.  It was an excellent display from the Reds, especially as Klopp made 9 changes from the side that played Chelsea in the FA Cup Final just a few days earlier.

Liverpool now find themselves just a single point behind City, with 1 game left to play on Sunday.  Liverpool already knew they could not leapfrog City at the top of the table - whatever the result, but a loss would have made City champions and a draw would have effectively done the same, due to City's superior goal difference.  Liverpool's victory ensures the season will go down to the very last game, just as it did in the 2018-19 season.  On that occasion City beat Brighton 4-1 to claim the Title.

This time around City face Aston Villa at the Etihad.  Liverpool fans will be hoping and praying that Steven Gerrard, Danny Ings and Phillipe Coutinho can cause an upset and help Liverpool win another Title.
