Bernardo Silva pays Liverpool compliment in post-match rant at Arsenal
Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva launched a stinging attack on Arsenal following their fiery contest on Sunday afternoon, with the Spaniard comparing the different ways Liverpool and Arsenal approach games against City.
With passions running high after the game, Silva was quick to criticise Arsenal's tactics, whilst praising Liverpool for the way in which the Reds often go 'toe-to-toe' with City, despite the high stakes when the two teams meet.
Manchester City and Arsenal played out a fiery contest on Sunday afternoon, with the match ending in a dramatic two-all draw, thanks to a 97th-minute equaliser from City defender John Stones.
Despite going behind early on, after Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal for City, Arsenal looked to have claimed a remarkable victory, with goals from Calafiori and Gabriel giving the Gunners the lead at halftime, only for England defender Stones to pop up with the equaliser, following a scramble in the Arsenal box.
It meant both teams had to settle for a point, with City moving back to the top of the Premier League table, ahead of Liverpool by a single point.
Plenty of passion and cards
Despite the high-octane nature of the match, most of the post-match debate centred around several contentious refereeing decisions, with Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard being sent off just before halftime, whilst City complained about Arsenal's first goal, as Kyle Walker was left out of position after being talked too by the referee, with Arsenal taking a quick freekick before the right back could get back into position.
In total, 6 players were booked, with Trossard seeing red for two bookable offences.
Speaking after the match, City midfielder Bernardo Silva was in no doubt over which team played the better football, and whilst criticising Arsenal, he also highlighted Liverpool for the way in which the Reds have approached recent games with City.
Bernardo Silva praises Liverpool's approach
Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil straight after the final whistle, Silva was highly critical of Arsenal's tactics, saying the Gunners were masters of the 'Dark Arts', and accusing the London team of time wasting and conning the referee.
"There was only one team that came to play football, the other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee, unfortunately."
"I'm glad we always enter the pitch to try to win every match."
Silva then went on to compare the styles of Liverpool and Arsenal, praising the Merseyside club for the way in which their recent encounters have been played out.
"Liverpool always faced us face-to-face to try to win the games, so by this perspective, the games against Arsenal haven't been like the ones we had and have against Liverpool."
"I don't know. Maybe that Liverpool have already won a Premier League, Arsenal haven't. That Liverpool have won a Champions League, Arsenal haven't."
Silva seems to forget City's own 'Dark Arts'
Whilst it is nice to hear Bernardo Silva praise the way in which Jurgen Klopp's side played their football over the past few seasons, it seems a little ironic that he criticised Arsenal for using the 'dark arts'. After all, City have been the master of the 'dark arts' for many seasons, with players such as Fernandihno and Rodri constantly fouling players to stop promising attacks, whilst Pep Guardiola and his players are one of the worst culprits when it comes to surrounding the referee and fourth officials.
Liverpool and City are due to meet on the 1st of December, so it will be interesting to hear Silva's post-match comments, especially if Arne Slot's new look Liverpool takes more points off the title favourites.
